Baby Blackie
Blackie, Blackberry, Beary, Blackbear —
Frankly, my dear, I don’t really care.
When it’s time for dinner, just make sure that I’m there;
I like very thick steaks, medium rare.
I’m rambunctious and smart and clever and gay,
I’ll wrestle my sister the whole live-long day.
I was born inside and inside I’ll stay,
So please keep me safe and don’t let me stray.
I got myself fixed and all my shots, too
By the good doctors and techs down at Fairview.
I like people and cats and probably you,
And my Sis needs a home if you can take two.
A knowledge of dogs I haven’t yet got,
But I’m young and I’ll learn about Rover and Spot.
The same thing with kids in case you just thought,
And I suspect that I’ll learn to love them a lot.
I’m four and-a-half months, born 27 July,
I’m the biggest and fastest, a strong, funny guy.
I’m healthy, happy, curious and spry,
And I’d really love it if you’d give me a try.
